THE PARENTS ASSOCIATION

Dear PS 145 Community:

Many people think of parent groups as being all about bake sales. Or they think of power-tripping moms ruling their domain, like Desperate Housewives and Harper Valley PTA . Well, that's good TV, but it's not us.

PS145 Parent Association is about men and women working together toward a common goal. That goal is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers and administrators can do their best work—and so can our children!

In the past years we have:

  • Helped plan the school year by creating the All School Calendar
  • Improved communication by creating our website: www.ps145m.org
  • Improved school pride by publishing a newspaper, The Blooming News
  • Created a ordered start to the school year by creating and implementing the School Yard Map

There's a lot more to be accomplished, and we need your help. Despite what you might see on TV, our parent group is not a bunch of crazed, power-hungry parents. We are moms and dads, uncles and aunts, grandparents, and friends who care about children and education. We are welcoming and friendly! We are your neighbors, and we share many of the same concerns you do. So, please introduce yourself by stopping by the parent room (135) or emailing us at pa@ps145m.org . We look forward to a superb school year!

Parent Involvement: We are committed to helping our parents support our students! Successful school-family partnerships require the sustained mutual collaboration, support, and participation of school staffs and families at home and at school. We invite and strongly urge you to become an active member of our community! A wealth of TALENT and EXPERIENCE exists among our parents, and we hope you will be willing to share some if it.

Our General Membership Meetings are held the 2nd Wed. of every month @ 8:30 am

Join us for an infomative meeting on our progress and find out about plans for the future.

EVER WONDER HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED?

Communication: One of our particular passions is to make sure parents get the information they need in a timely manner. Our motto: Plan Ahead—Nothing Last Minute! There are many ways you can help; by offering to type up notices, do copying, update bulletin boards and draft emails.

Translation : We have a special need for Spanish-English and French-English translation both oral and written. If you have this special talent, please let us know! We need your help.

Class Reps: We are starting something new this year by electing a point person for each class. Class Reps can help improve communication for your class, help plan trips, coordinate classroom volunteers, be a link to the PA membership, etc.

Join a Support Group Committee: We have many standing committees that need your help and expertise. Consider participating in one of our parent support groups! School Leadership Team, G&T Support Group, Dual-Language Parent Group, Special Ed Parent Group, Volunteer committee, Fundraising Events Committee, Grant Writing committee.

Communication/Newsletter: We are looking for parents to help with our school paper
The Blooming News
. It's an exciting way to help us be informed.

Please seriously consider volunteering in the school this year. Every little bit counts! And you will be surprised at what a difference you can make.
